The point of this lab was to calculate the kinetic energy and potential energy in order to understand how it work. What we did in this was we tied a piece of yarn to a pencil and some washers. We calculated how many times it swung and then added more washers(The limit was 5). After repeating this a few times we calculated the KE of its swing. The way we did this was by dividing the number of swings by 10 (every second The law of conservation of energy proves that energy cannot be created or destroyed only transferred. This connects to the lab because as the yarn swung, more of the energy was transferred away making the string sway lower and much slower.But I also think that this lab doesn’t show the whole potential of KE and PE because although the more mass the washers had. The numbers of swings surprisingly did not change, the numbers of swings were always either 6 or 7.(Small washers in order: 6,6,7 Big washers in order: 6,7,7) The numbers were consistent between trials there were either 6’s or 7’s in the trials. The more washers there were the more the more Ke and and Pe there was but it didn’t seem to affect the amount of swings, perhaps it affected how long it would swing. As I said before, the mass of the washer doesn’t seem to affect the swings (or velocity of the swing) as the amount is always 6 or 7
